Trilogy Health Services is committed to exceeding expectations and embodying the service standards and values that set its resident and employee experiences apart. Trilogy’s leaders know that “it’s their employees that make the difference.” That belief guides leaders, like Bill Moore, who set the tone in Trilogy’s Louisville, Kentucky, headquarters.
These values are especially important considering what Trilogy Health Services does. The company is one of the nation’s leading senior living community operators. Trilogy provides services in five midwestern states and has approximately 130 locations offering skilled nursing, assisted and independent living, memory care, rehabilitation services, and dialysis services.
Moore, the experienced human resources leader and vice president of total rewards and recognition, knows that employees who feel cared for will provide the best care to others.
“Ultimately, we believe that if we take great care of our employees, they’ll be able to be the best version of themselves,” Moore says. “And when that’s the case, we know those entrusted to our care will be taken care of very well.”
Moore oversees compensation, benefits, and recognition functions for the entire organization. It’s a responsibility he takes very seriously. “I view it as a privilege and honor to provide exceptional total rewards packages for our employees, and equally important, to continue bringing awareness to what’s available,” he says. By doing so, he drives engagement and ensures his colleagues are using the numerous resources available to them. He continues, “Benefits aren’t benefits unless you’re using them.”
Embracing Trilogy’s overall mission and values compels Moore to take a people-centered approach. His team sends regular and detailed engagement surveys via an internal communications platform to connect with employees about benefits and discover what features they consider most important. Some unique aspects of the Trilogy package include weekly pay, free meals, registered apprenticeship programs, and paid parental leave. The Trilogy Health Services Foundation also supports employees through scholarships and emergency assistance.
Moore views compensation and benefits as a pair that work best together. His concept of a full benefits package goes beyond wellness to include wellbeing. Wellbeing considers what each single person believes it means to them to be well,” he says. “It extends beyond physical health and financial security to include emotional, mental, social, and spiritual health.” Moore and his team work to ensure every program and resource the company provides is accessible, inclusive, and promotes a culture of belonging.
Data and technology are two important pieces to Moore’s total rewards strategy. He’s currently busy introducing a new benefits analytics platform from Artemis by Nomi Health. The benefits solution lets organizations like Trilogy harness the power of their data to manage benefits costs, reduce spending, measure return of investment (ROI), and prioritize investments. Having centralized access to data will help Moore and others understand what is happening in their population of more than 17,000 employees and then make quicker, more informed decisions. “We are proud to partner with Trilogy to help them connect the dots between benefits and actual health outcomes, including shining light on the social determinant of health factors that influence wellbeing through our analytics platform,” said Sanjay Motwani, president of Artemis.
Moore attended Indiana University Southeast, where he earned a degree in business administration and management. He joined the workforce as an operational excellence leader at Mercer, where he implemented process improvements and led compensation studies with a heavy emphasis on operations and technology. He then spent five years optimizing benefit administration systems as a business analyst at ADP. These roles helped Moore gain a broad and deep exposure not only to compensation and benefits but to a diverse range of industries and HR practices.
By 2013, Moore was ready for something new and joined Trilogy as its director of HR technology. He stepped up to manage the company’s compensation function in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and took on his current role of building a formal total rewards function in 2023.
Like his counterparts, Moore is currently dealing with the rising costs of healthcare across the nation. Those costs are rising faster than wages and create a challenging environment for employers who want to provide comprehensive benefits while trying to maintain lower premiums, deductibles, and out-of-pocket maximums. Moore and his team are fighting back against the unfortunate phenomenon, uncovering new approaches, and identifying partnerships to enhance plan design features that bring the most value.
“Now more than ever, it’s important to get creative and innovative in our approach so we can continue to provide our employees with the compensation, benefits, and rewards they deserve,” he says.
Moore enjoys visiting Trilogy Health Services sites as often as possible. Being inside each community fills him with a sense of pride. Inside each space, he sees Trilogy employees treating residents with respect, compassion, and dignity.
“Our facilities are top notch. They really are amazing places to live,” Moore says. “But it’s the people that matter the most.”
